Representatives of Austria, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey, the five countries initially behind Nabucco — which will link Central Asia to Western Europe via Turkey, over a distance of 3 300 km — signed the agreement in the presence of the Turkish Prime Minister, the US Secretary of State for Energy, the President of the Commission and Nabucco’s new political adviser, Joschka Fischer, a former German Foreign Minister and an ardent supporter of Turkish accession to the EU.
