Genocide defendants have been classified into several categories, with category 1 pertaining principally to planners, organizers, instigators and supervisors of the genocide; category 2 to authors, co-authors and accomplices with respect to homicides, or serious attacks that caused someone’s death; and category 3 to those who committed criminal acts or became accomplices to serious attacks not intended to cause death.
