The second involves resistant bacteria of animal origin which, whether they are capable of causing infections or whether they are, in principle, harmless to humans (commensal bacteria, such as enterococci), transmit the resistance information encoded in certain of their genes to bacteria normally present in humans which are themselves capable of causing infections (pathogens such as staphylococci).
Toisen tavan mukaan eläimistä peräisin olevat vastustuskykyiset bakteerit, riippumatta niiden kyvystä aiheuttaa infektioita tai siitä, ovatko ne periaatteessa vaarattomia ihmiselle (kommensaaliset bakteerit, kuten enterokokit), välittävät joissakin niiden geeneissä koodattua tietoa vastustuskyvystä bakteereille, joita on tavallisesti ihmisessä ja jotka puolestaan voivat aiheuttaa infektioita (patogeeniset bakteerit, kuten stafylokokit).EurLex-2 EurLex-2
