Videodiscs come in two different formats, Constant Linear Velocity (CLV), the extended play format most commonly used for linear applications such as movies, concerts, etc. which allows for recording up to 60 minutes of motion video on each side of a 12-inch disc, and Constant Angular Velocity (CAV), the standard play format most commonly used for interactive applications, in which a 12-inch disc will hold 54,000 video frames, each frame can be addressed and presented individually, and up to 30 minutes of motion video with sound can be contained on each side of a 12-inch disc.
