Given that the Commission states, quite rightly, that it ‘considers that violating the rights of women can never be justified on grounds of cultural relativism or in the name of tradition’, does it agree with Commander Steve Allan of the Metropolitan Police that a decision by the British Government not to outlaw forced marriages sent a signal to the Muslim community that the practice was ‘acceptable’, and that ‘we need political and faith leaders from within these communities to stand up and utterly reject these practices’?
