(a) using relevant ‘trend’ information, the natural diversity of a Marine Region is maintained (where trends are stable) and restored (where downward trends have been recorded), including ecosystems, habitats and species, paying particular attention to those that are most vulnerable to the impacts of human activities due to certain ecological characteristics, e.g. fragility, sensitivity, slow growth, low fecundity, longevity, location at edge of range, poor gene flow and genetically distinct sub-populations;
