Maar ook deze gebieden worden geconfronteerd met globalisatie en de toename van het omgekeerde verschijnsel, nl. dat van een groeiend gevoel van heimwee naar de "eigen plek" dat, als het niet beteugeld wordt, uitmondt in provincialisme, particularisme en versplintering. Dit is precies het omgekeerde van integratie en zet, niet toevallig, aan tot anti-Europees beleid.
