In de wetenschap dat Europa bij de ontwikkeling van de dieselmotortechnologie een aanzienlijke voorsprong heeft ten opzichte van de rest van de wereld en dat voor deze ontwikkeling geavanceerde technologie vereist is, die eveneens een troef is van de Europese Unie in vergelijking met de andere economische grootmachten, lijkt het ons niet verstandig de Europese automobielindustrie, die al af te rekenen heeft met de geduchte concurrentie van de derde landen en met structurele problemen, daar bovenop een zo destabiliserende klap toe te dienen.
Given, moreover, that Europe enjoys a considerable competitive advantage over other regions of the world with regard to the technological development of diesel engines, and that such development depends on cutting-edge research, which is one of the EU’s major assets by comparison with other economic powers, it does not seem sensible to inflict a destabilising blow of this magnitude on the European automotive sector at a time when it faces stiff competition from third countries as well as structural problems.not-set not-set
