Med hänvisning till detta yttrandes syfte är det lägligt att påminna om att det i Europeiska unionens stadga om de grundläggande rättigheterna står att ”i syfte att bekämpa social utslagning och fattigdom skall unionen erkänna och respektera rätten till socialbidrag och till bostadsbidrag som, i enlighet med närmare bestämmelser i gemenskapsrätten samt i nationell lagstiftning och praxis, är avsedda att trygga en värdig tillvaro för alla dem som saknar tillräckliga medel” (artikel 34), liksom att en ”hög nivå i fråga om konsumentskydd skall tryggas i unionens politik” (artikel 38).
As regards the subject of this opinion, it is worth recalling, the text of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, which states that ‘In order to combat social exclusion and poverty, the Union recognises and respects the right to social and housing assistance so as to ensure a decent existence for all those who lack sufficient resources, in accordance with the rules laid down by Community law and national laws and practices.’ (Art. 34), and the duty to ensure a high level of consumer protection (Art. 38).EurLex-2 EurLex-2
